Kruger Park & Private Lodges

Greater Kruger National Park, is joint venture between the Kruger National Park and the Associated Private Nature Reserves. Together they have an area of more than 20.000.000 Ha (or more than 20.000 Km²), under their joint conservation. Associated Private Nature Reserves, (APNR), is an association of privately owned nature reserves bordering on the Kruger National Park. Collectively they represent 1,800 square kilometres (180,000 ha) of land dedicated to conservation. In June 1993 the fences between Kruger National Park and the APNR were removed. The following reserves are members of the APNR: Balule Private Game Reserve, Kapama Private Game Reserve, Klaserie Private Game Reserve, Timbavati Private Game Reserve, Thornybush Private Game Reserve, Sabi Sands Game Reserve and Umbabat Private Game Reserve.

Kruger National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa. It covers 19,485 square kilometres (7,523 sq mi) and extends 360 kilometres (220 mi) from north to south and 65 kilometres (40 mi) from east to west. In 2002, Kruger National Park, Gonarezhou National Park in Zimbabwe, and Limpopo National Park in Mozambique were incorporated into the a peace park, the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. The Kruger Park varies in altitude between 200 m in the east and 840 m in the south-west near Berg-en-Dal. The climate of the Kruger National Park and Lowveld is subtropical. Summer days are humid and hot with temperatures often soaring to above 38 °C (100 °F). The rainy season is from September until May. The dry winter season is the ideal time to visit this region for various reasons. There is less chance of contracting malaria and the days are milder. Viewing wildlife is more rewarding as the vegetation is sparser and animals are drawn to the waterholes to drink every morning and evening. LOCAT ION
Situated in the heart of the 65 000 hectare (160 600 acre) Sabi Sand Game Reserve adjoining the Kruger National Park, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa. Kirkman’s Kamp has a traversing area of 6 300 hectares (15 500 acres). A 5 hour drive on good roads from Johannesburg to the Shaw’s Gate of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Federal Air offers daily scheduled flights from OR Tambo to Skukuza Airstrip followed by a short drive to Kirkman’s Kamp.

GUEST AREAS
Kirkman’s Kamp features a large sitting room, with a 1920’s ambience, overlooking rolling lawns. Breakfast and lunch are served on shady verandas, and dinners are shared in the dramatic boma or in romantic candlelit bush settings. Cool off in the sparkling pool or browse in the Safari Shop.

Weather: Summer months are hot and humid (Nov to Mar). Temperatures start to cool slightly (Apr), and winter months are warm with cold nights/dawns (May to Jun). July to September is very dry with cold night and early morning/late afternoon temperatures. Spring is very dry with hot, dry winds (Sept to Oct).
Rainfall: The first rains start towards the end of October. Rains or typical afternoon thundershowers (Nov and Mar), with potential scattered afternoon thundershowers (Apr).

Malaria: Kirkman’s Kamp is situated in a malaria area and necessary precautions should be taken.
Children: Children are welcome (maximum 2 children 16 years and younger in triple accommodation at any one time). Regretfully, children 5 years and younger cannot participate in game drives. Child minders at an additional cost. Only 2 triples in camp at any one time.
Park Fees: R110 per vehicle (for self-drive guests) and R20 per guest entry fees payable at the gate.
